Grandma Great’s Coffee Cake Legacy
Our family recipes are written in a green spiral notebook with handwritten notes in the margins. Some of our family’s most treasured recipes came from Grandma Great.
Grandma Great loved cooking and baking, and many of her favorite recipes came from the Early Settlement Cookbook published in the 1930s. She was known not only for her delicious baked goods but also for being very selective about whom she shared her recipes with. We were fortunate enough to be among the few who received her treasured recipes, allowing us to continue her baking legacy.
One recipe has become a family tradition: her famous cinnamon coffee cake.
Recently, however, Grandma Great’s classic cinnamon coffee cake has found itself facing some serious competition. Our blueberry coffee cake has become so popular that family members can no longer agree on which version deserves the title of favorite. Every reunion seems to spark the same friendly debate. Fortunately, everyone agrees that the simplest solution is to serve both.
While we cherish the original recipe, we’ve added a few touches of our own over the years. We enhanced the flavor with a hint of vanilla and doubled the cinnamon streusel layer in the center because there’s no such thing as too much streusel.
As our business grew, we wanted to make sure that Grandma Great’s recipes could be enjoyed by almost everyone. We spent countless hours testing and refining gluten-free and vegan versions of all of our coffee cake flavors. Our goal was simple: preserve the comforting flavor and texture that made these cakes family favorites while creating options that everyone could share.
Today, every coffee cake we bake carries a little piece of Grandma Great’s legacy. Her recipes have connected generations of our family and now yours. Whether you’re firmly on Team Cinnamon, passionately supporting Team Blueberry, or choosing a different flavor, we think Grandma Great would be happy knowing that her love of baking continues to bring so much joy.
